Spokane County sheriff’s detectives have identified the remains of a man who died in a hobo camp fire in the Valley this month.

Medical records show the man was Russell J. Cardinal, 43, a transient whose last known address was in Helena, detectives said Thursday.

The Dec. 11 blaze broke out in the camp just west of Sullivan Road near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

Firefighters responded to a burning building, where they found Cardinal’s remains.
