Christmas Spirit

To make sure the Christmas and New Year’s holidays were suitably festive and to brighten the typically gloomy Russian winter, Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov ordered all stores and restaurants in the capital to put up holiday decorations. He did not specify the consequences of failing to comply. One businessman obeyed the decree by placing a giant plastic figure of Santa Claus on the street in front of his store.
