Us West Must Change Its Service

US West Communications must allow customers to select an instate long-distance carrier by dialing 1 plus the telephone number, the Idaho Public Utilities Commission has ordered.

Currently, customers who place long-distance calls within their regions of the state must dial a series of numbers before dialing the phone number if they don’t want their carrier to be US West.

The public utilities commission ordered US West to file a plan for allowing people to select other long distance carriers by June 1, 1999.
