Lakeland, Bf In Title Game

Intermountain League teams had their say during Tuesday’s first day of the Freeman Tournament.

Lakeland defeated the host Scotties 59-38 and Bonners Ferry topped Deer Park 59-43. The IML rivals will meet at 6 p.m. today for the championship. DP plays Freeman at 2 in the consolation game.

Julie Bateman scored nine of her 20 points in the first quarter as the Badgers defeated the Stags to advance to the title game.

Bateman, Hailey Larson and Amanda Ashby combined for 24 rebounds to lead BF’s 38-25 edge. Ashby added seven steals. DP’s Angel Ebel had 10 rebounds.

Nikki Petticrew scored 21 on 8-of-16 shooting and added 16 rebounds, seven assists and six steals as the Spokane-based Eagles beat the Tigers at Nine Mile Falls for their 29th straight win.

Julia Vojtech added seven assists, five steals and 6-of-10 shooting from the floor for Lakeside. Stephanie Clarkson hit four 3-pointers for Tonasket, which finished eighth at last year’s State 1A Tournament.
