Nic Tops Tournament Hosts

Area colleges

Becki Huddle hit four 3-pointers and scored 25 points as the Cardinals defeated the host Roadrunners 71-50 at the College of the Desert Tournament in Palm Desert, Calif.

Huddle also had eight steals and six assists as North Idaho ran its record to 2-0 at the tourney.

Katy Shaw and Jodi Fisher combined for 15 rebounds, and Bianca Ryan added seven steals for NIC.

The Roadrunners finished with 41 turnovers.

The Cardinals play Los Angeles Southwest at 10 this morning.

Washington 75, Boise St. 53

Amber Hall finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Huskies pulled away from a halftime tie to defeat the visiting Broncos at Seattle.

Jamie Redd scored eight and became the third-leading scorer in UW history. The senior has 1,707 career points and needs 95 more to supplant Rhonda Smith atop the all-time list.

Julia Gray and Malinda Lynch scored 10 points apiece for Washington. Reyna Fortenberry scored 12 and Stephanie Block 11 for Boise State.

The Broncos took their second and final lead of the game at 32-30 on a short turnaround jumper by Jenny Hodges less than 2 minutes into the second half.

Hall scored seven as the Huskies outscored BSU 30-6 over the next 10 minutes.

Washington jumped to a 12-3 lead after 4 minutes as the Broncos hit just 1 of 7 from the field.

BSU rallied for a 24-23 lead on Reyna Fortenberry’s 12-foot jumper with 3:59 left in the first half.

Jon Chatfield scored 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field as the Sasquatch defeated the visiting Mountaineers’ junior varsity .

James Kiger of CCS was also 7 of 12 from the floor and added nine rebounds. The Sasquatch made 21 of their 27 free throws.

The teams meet again today at 3 p.m.
