Dollar Hits 3-Month Low Vs. Yen
The dollar plunged to a three-month low against the Japanese yen Wednesday as Japan passed a special income tax cut to energize the country’s ailing economy.
The tax cut strengthened the yen in its dealings with many currencies because it means “most likely Japan is dealing with the problems they are having,” said Elena Shperling, chief currency trader at Banco di Sicilia in New York.
Overall, the dollar fell against the German mark and other major currencies in what traders considered a weak market ready to sell the U.S. currency.
