Unreadable Note Foils Robbery Try

Poor penmanship thwarted a would-be robber at a Valley bank Saturday.

A teller at Washington Mutual Bank’s branch at 12005 E. Sprague couldn’t understand the robbery note handed to her late Saturday morning, sheriff’s deputies said. The teller told the man who gave her the note that she couldn’t read his writing, then asked him to tell her what he needed.

The man, described as unshaven and smelling of alcohol, kept his hands in his pockets and refused to speak, deputies said. When the teller went to get her manager, he waited at the front counter for a few minutes, then left the bank.

After examining the nearly illegible note, detectives concluded it read: “This is a robb. Plouas put outut teller. No one will git hurt. Thank.”

The teller described the man as about 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds with brown hair cut into a long crew cut. He was wearing an green Eddie Bauer jacket with elastic on the bottom and a hood with draw strings.
