Starbucks Sets Up For Slam-Dunk

Seattle Post-Intelligencer

Starbucks Coffee Co. has teamed with basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson to bring coffee shops to “under-served, inner-city urban neighborhoods across the country.”

After the announcement by Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz, Johnson told shareholders attending Starbucks annual meeting that the inner-city market has strong potential.

Schultz also announced that Starbucks will bring its coffee “to every supermarket in America.”

Initial tests in Portland and Chicago produced good results, he said, and Starbucks will expand the roll-out to 10 market areas, including Spokane, this spring.

Plans call for the coffee to be sold initially in 3,000 grocery stores beginning April 14.
