Irs Employee Sentenced For Fraud

Associated Press

A former Internal Revenue Service employee has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for improperly accessing taxpayer records and using the information to commit credit card fraud.

Shelly Dawson pleaded guilty in federal court to theft of public records and fraud in connection with use of a credit card.

Dawson, a tax examining assistant at the IRS office in Seattle, admitted to using an IRS computer to get information on individual taxpayers, then using the information to obtain a credit card in one taxpayer’s name.

She then ran up $4,860.66 in charges for which she did not pay.
