Edgy New Cougar To Come Soon

Coming soon to a Lincoln/Mercury dealership near you an all-new Cougar. It’s the first iteration of Mercury’s new Edge design philosophy. And, while it won’t be here for the show, those who have seen it at previews say it’s sensational.

In other Mercury news, a redesigned exterior, new suspension and all-speed traction control lead the lineup of changes for the heavily revised full-size Grand Marquis. There’s a more elegant front fascia with larger headlights and cleaner grille, aerodynamic mirrors and protective moldings with chrome inserts. The taillights are larger and the decklid gets an upturned edge for a more dynamic look.

It also gets 16-inch wheels, larger brakes and coil-on-plug ignition.

The Mystique gets a makeover, too, beginning with the flared headlights from the European Mondeo. There are six-spoke polished wheels for the LS model and noise, vibration and harshness improvements throughout the family.

If you order a Sable with the 200-hp Duratec V-6 engine, you’ll get an improved torque converter and gearing changes that enhance low-speed acceleration.

The Tracer motors on into the new year with no significant changes.

Trucks and SUVs

It’s just a year old, but the Mountaineer, Mercury’s version of Ford’s popular Explorer, is already enjoying an extensive facelift - and a new engine option.

Until now, you could get your Mountaineer only with a 5-liter, 215 hp V-8, but now a 205-hp 4-liter, SOHC V-6 is also available.

Outside, there’s a new grille, tailgate, lighting package, side molding, wheels and paint. And the interior is graced with a new console and an updated sew style for the seats.
