Pitcher Dave Mlicki and the New York Mets avoided their salary arbitration case, agreeing to a $3.5 million, two-year contract.

Mark Gubicza, a former 20-game winner who tried to prolong his career by signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has decided to retire because of a sore shoulder.

Gubicza, 35, was limited to two starts for the Anaheim Angels last season before being placed on the 15-day disabled list April 14.
