Odessa, Ach Win In Bi-County Openers

B boys basketball

The West was best in the Bi-County on Friday as double-elimination play began in the league tournament in Reardan.

Odessa defeated Liberty 61-35 and Almira/Coulee-Hartline topped Davenport 56-48 as West teams sent East teams into the losers bracket.

The tourney continues tonight at 7:30 with ACH (13-8) playing sixth-ranked and top-seeded Valley Christian (17-2) and Odessa (14-6) renewing its year-long rivalry with second-seeded Wilbur-Creston (13-6), the West champion.

Davenport and Liberty play winner-to-district, loser-out games on Tuesday.

Michael Jeske hit 8 of 13 field goals to help the Tigers over the Lancers (7-15).

Liberty missed 10 of 17 free throws.

The balanced Warriors pulled steadily away from the Gorillas (8-15).

Gabe Goldman scored 21, hitting 8 of 13 from the field and 5 of 5 from the line, and the Crusaders (13-9) shot 50 percent from the floor to eliminate the visiting Hornets (6-15).

The Crusaders play a winner-to-district, loser-out game at 6 p.m. Tuesday against tonight’s loser between St. George’s (16-5) and Curlew (18-3).

Nick Bates closed within 39 points of 1,000 for his career, and Brian and Greg Busch combined for 23 rebounds as the fifth-seeded Wildcats (7-12) eliminated the Spartans (1-19) at Endicott.

Colton plays No. 4 Tekoa-Oakesdale (11-9) at 4 p.m. today in a loser-out.
