Egghead.Com Signs Marketing Agreement With Cnet
Egghead.com Inc. has signed a broad-based marketing agreement with The Computer Network, CNET, to promote Egghead’s web sites on CNET’s network of Internet sites.
George Orban, Egghead’s chairman and chief executive officer, said the agreement is a critical step in converting Egghead from a traditional retailer to selling exclusively via the Internet.
“This should allow our powerful brand name to be used effectively to build market share in the fast-growing world of electronic commerce,” Orban said in a news release Tuesday.
Spokane-based Egghead, which has struggled as a traditional retailer in recent years, announced last month that it will close all of its retail outlets as soon as merchandise can be liquidated, and conduct its business solely on the Internet via its three web sites, www.egghead.com, www.surplusdirect.com, and www.surplusauction.com.
CNET integrates television programming with a network of sites on the Internet. In both media, CNET provides information on computers, the Internet and digital technologies. It is the Web’s largest publisher of information in those areas, with more than 6 million visits in the month of January. Its television programming airs on USA Network, the Sci-Fi Channel, and in national syndication.
CNET will display retail links to Egghead’s web sites alongside relevant editorial content within CNET sites, including CNET’s exclusive single product and comparative reviews. The links will take users directly to the pages at egghead.com and suprlusauction.com.
CNET also will promote Egghead with Internet and television advertising on its own media properties.
