Farm Contest Begins

From Staff Reports

The Cocolalla Lake Association is hosting a Hobby Farm Stewardship Contest to reward small-operation farmers for improving water quality.

Participating farmers need to identify a water quality problem and propose a plan to address the problem. Projects can address many issues, such as stream protection, erosion control, and wetland protection.

Local natural resource professionals will judge the projects based on the degree of water quality improvements that are possible, and the ability of the practices holding up over time.

Prizes are $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place. To be eligible, the hobby farm must be in the Cocolalla Lake Watershed, fit the definition of a hobby farm, and the property must have water on it.

The contest is sponsored by PG&E Gas Transmission-Northwest. For more information, call 883-1806. , DataTimes
