Woman Sues City For Injury At Football Game

From Staff And Wire Reports

An 81-year-old Spokane woman whose leg was broken while watching her grandson play flag football is suing the city for negligence.

Inger Olson filed a lawsuit Monday alleging the side-by-side configuration of two football games sponsored by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department in September 1996 led to her injury.

Olson was watching her grandson’s game from a spectator section situated between the two games at Glover Middle School when a player from the adjacent field struck her from the side and rear, according to the lawsuit.

“Because the fields were set up in such a way that football players from one game were not visible to spectators watching the other game, an unreasonable risk and hazard was created,” the lawsuit said.

Olson later underwent surgery to repair her fractured tibia. Her lawsuit asks for an unspecified amount of damages.

On Tuesday, City Attorney Jim Sloane said he couldn’t comment on the lawsuit because he hadn’t seen it.

Efforts to reach Jerry Dyreson, Olson’s attorney, were unsuccessful. Arthur Olson, Inger’s husband, said he and his wife were told by Dyreson not to discuss the lawsuit.
