Batt’s Farm Worker Comp Policy Praised

From Staff And Wire Reports

Advocates are praising Gov. Phil Batt for pushing legislation that would keep injured farm workers from getting as little as $11 a week in compensation.

“He’s standing by his commitment. He’s made a lot of commitments to agricultural workers, and I’m glad the Legislature is standing with it,” said Lew Rodriguez, eastern Idaho coordinator for the Idaho Migrant Council.

The legislation, which was unanimously approved by the House Human Resources Committee Monday, would set a minimum reimbursement of $66.45 per week for an injured seasonal farm worker covered by workers’ compensation insurance, regardless of how much the worker was making or how long the person had worked.
