Eastern’s Football Schedule Includes Five Home Games
Coming off its best-ever finish, which included a berth in the NCAA Division I-AA semifinals, the Eastern Washington University football team is gearing up for five home games in 1998.
Highlighting the schedule for the Big Sky Conference champions, announced Thursday by athletic director Dick Zornes, is an Oct. 24 clash with perennial conference power Montana in Spokane’s Albi Stadium.
Eastern defeated Montana 40-35 last season at Missoula, scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter to end the Grizzlies’ 30-game home winning streak.
After finishing 7-1 in league, the Eagles hosted three playoff games in Spokane, losing their semifinal game to eventual national champion Youngstown State.
The Eagles’ other 1998 home games will be played at Woodward Stadium in Cheney. They will open the season Sept. 5 at Moscow, Idaho, against the Idaho Vandals.
The home opener will be a Sept. 12 date with Portland State. Other home opponents include Northern Arizona, Western Washington and Montana State. The Western game on Oct. 10, the first between the old rivals in two decades, will be homecoming.
