No Tears For Crier Repeal
When was the last time anybody saw a county sheriff going through the streets crying out that court was in session?
That law from statehood days is still on the books. But maybe not for much longer. The Idaho House voted 61-4 on Friday to repeal it.
Rep. Kent Kunz, R-Pocatello, told House members the requirement that the county sheriff serve as the “court crier” dates from the 1860s. The duties of county sheriffs are covered more extensively in a law adopted in 1988, he said.
“This is a cleanup bill to get something out that’s not needed,” Kunz said. , DataTimes
