Their New Year’s Resolutions Full Of Hope
Valley Christian School
These New Year’s resolutions were offered by students in Steve Altmeyer’s Bible class for high school students at Valley Christian School:
Jimmy Decker: “I am going to serve others by doing something for a widow every three months.”
Seth William Everts: “Resolutions: To live a life worthy of the gospel of Christ. To be diligent and work hard as if I was doing so for God, not for man. To obey no matter what the cost. To keep myself from ungodly situations, to read the word of God and apply it everyday, to feed the spirit and starve the flesh, to live a life that is sincere.”
Rachel Fauerso: “New Year’s resolutions: to pray more specifically, instead of generally praying for others by name, to walk away and not be a part of conversation that would dishonor Jesus Christ and to not make promises I can’t keep.”
Sean Foss: “My New Year’s resolutions: To not put things off, to read my Bible everyday and to help out around the house more.”
Derek Lee Fridley: “My resolution for this year is to make every day like a new year. A bright, new chance to start all over again each day. I want to try my very best to keep every commitment and promise that I make. I want my ‘yes’ to mean yes, and my ‘no’ to mean no. I don’t want any gray areas in front of me with a maybe. I want to stand for everything that I believe to be true.”
Kate Hein: “My New Year’s resolution is to share my faith in Christ with more people by reaching out to people whom I may not feel comfortable in doing so.”
Kristen Lanker: “My New Year’s resolutions are promises to myself that I usually forget or don’t keep. (But I do have some goals or disciplines and the new year is usually a good time to start them.) To grow more mature in my spiritually, spend time in God’s word for insight on a daily basis and train myself year-round for athletics.”
Elizabeth Moore: “I resolve to think more before speaking, to determine if my words are truly uplifting and glorify Christ. I want to spend more time in prayer daily as well.”
Mari Nelson: “My New Year’s resolution for the 1998 year is to have an open mind to what God would have me do. Things like praying for my brothers and sisters, being alert to the enemies of deceptions and always showing God’s true love to others around me.”
Sarah Teterud: “This year for my resolutions I don’t want to make a promise I don’t intend to keep. I want to set disciplines for myself. First, I want to get closer to God by knowing him more and more through his Bible. In sports, I want to play for the ‘King,’ not myself. Throughout this next year, I want to be more like Christ and follow his example to the fullest extent.”
Thomas Tichurenn: “I am a Christian and that means I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It also means I must follow and obey his word - the Bible. My goals for the 1998 year are to grow in studying and meditating on God’s word, so I know what God wants me to do. It also means actually applying to my life what I have learned in God’s word. Next year I want to become more strong spiritually. I experienced the power of God in my life and also his love and mercy, and I just want more of that.”
Mark Troyer: “My New Year’s resolution is to spend time with God and in prayer every day.”
Matt Troyer: “My New Year’s resolution is to be a greater encourager to Christians, to live out a greater faith in Jesus Christ and also to encourage others throughout their day.”
Elizabeth Wakeman: “I would like to read God’s word regularly, as it is one of the things that brings me close to God. I would like to be known as a radical Christian in my school. I want to go all the way in my relationship with Christ, to know no bounds in my standing up for him. I want to please God in all that I do - at home, school and with my friends.”
Krisi Wright: “In 1998, I would like to have more integrity, be more willing and make a difference and to help people see what Christianity is. And to beat our school’s mile record (for track).”
Teresa Yates: “To live with my parent with God’s will.”
