Bosnian Serbs Can’t Agree On Power Share
Feuding Bosnian Serb leaders met Friday but failed to bridge their widening rift over the distribution of power in their half of Bosnia.
After four hours of talks in Brcko, the Bosnian Serb president, Biljana Plavsic, and the Serb member of the tripartite Bosnian presidency, Momcilo Krajisnik, agreed only to hold more discussions next week. Krajisnik is the chief aide to war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic.
“We did not manage to reconcile different views,” Plavsic told reporters, adding that they also reached no agreement on a premier for the Bosnian Serb substate.
Six months ago, Plavsic split from Karadzic’s party, accusing its officials of corruption and defiance of the U.S.-brokered Dayton peace agreement.
It had been hoped the newly elected Bosnian Serb Parliament could resolve the power struggle, but its first session ended in disarray last week. The lawmakers were unable to form a Cabinet or pick a premier.
