Shooting Erupts At New Year’s Eve Bash

From Staff And Wire Reports

A broken window apparently sparked a shooting Thursday that wounded a man and a teenage boy, Spokane police said.

The victims were attending a New Year’s Eve party at a house in the 1000 block of West Spofford when an argument erupted outside the house, police said. It wasn’t clear if the victims were involved in the altercation.

At one point, someone threw a beer bottle at a minivan parked near the curb, police said. The bottle broke the van’s side window, and a man inside pointed a small caliber pistol at the crowd and started shooting.

A 16-year-old boy and 20-year-old man were hit. The minivan, which witnesses said was possibly a gray Dodge, then drove away.

The victims were treated at an area hospital for their wounds and will survive, police said.

Witnesses said the shooter was a black or Hispanic man in his mid-20s, about 6 feet tall, with his hair done in cornrows. The van was driven by a white female in her 20s with dark, reddish hair. Another man may have been inside as well, witnesses said.
