West Valley Sticks To Script That Works, Trips Sandpoint

Border League basketball

West Valley won a state title last March by setting a tournament record for successful 3-pointers.

The Eagles’ game plan appears the same, as long-range shots helped them defeat Sandpoint 56-47 Friday in a girls Border League game at West Valley.

Gabby McClintock and Heather Huffman combined to hit five of their team’s eight 3-pointers in the second half to lift the Eagles (5-4, 3-2) over the Bulldogs (3-9, 1-7).

McClintock is the lone returning starter from the State AA-title team that made 25 3-pointers in four tourney games, including nine in the title contest against Prosser.

Huffman added 12 rebounds as the Eagles overcame 2-for-19 long-range shooting in the first half. Natalie Ward had nine rebounds and Jill Verby four steals for Sandpoint.
