Hunt Classes Start

Hunter education

Now’s the time young hunters should be thinking about being eligible to buy a tag for this year’s hunting seasons.

The first round of hunter education classes begins this week in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. The winter classes typically are lighter in attendance than summer classes, officials say.

“Our July, August and September classes typically fill up very quickly because they take place just before hunting season,” said Mik Mikitik, hunter education coordinator for the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department.

Also, by completing the winter courses, young hunters are eligible to hunt the spring turkey seasons.

In Idaho, completion of a hunter education course is required for hunters born after Jan. 1, 1975. For information on signing up for courses, call the Idaho Fish and Game Department regional office in Coeur d’Alene at (208) 769-1414.

In Washington, completion of a hunter education course is required for hunters born after Jan. 1, 1972. For sign-up information, call the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department regional office in Spokane, (509) 456-4082. , DataTimes
