Crab Boat May Have Been Abandoned

An overturned boat found Tuesday in Puget Sound waters west of Camano Island apparently was abandoned, the Coast Guard says.

A Navy dive team searched the vessel, which appears to be a 30-foot crabber, and found no signs of life, said Petty Officer Tiffany Powell.

“They also found signs that it is an abandoned vessel,” said Powell, adding there is no number or name on the boat’s hull, no steering mechanism and no fuel.

The boat - about 75 yards off Mabana Point - was reported by a person who had spotted it from shore.

A Coast Guard helicopter, boat and other vessels in the area went to the scene in case there had been people aboard.
