Griz Assistant Is New Nau Football Coach

Jerome Souers, an assistant at Montana for the past 12 seasons, was hired Thursday as the head football coach at Northern Arizona.

Souers, 40, replaces Steve Axman, who resigned Dec. 18 after compiling a 48-41 record in eight seasons.

NAU athletic director Steve Holton said the school’s 39th football coach was en route from Missoula and would be introduced at a news conference today.

Souers had been a member of the Montana staff since 1986 and defensive coordinator since 1989.
