Hold The Anchovies, Please

America Online, which alerts its members to new e-mail with the chirpy “You’ve got mail!,” might soon be saying: “You’ve got pizza!”

The Dulles, Va.-based online service last week said it had agreed to a four-year, $20 million deal with Cybermeals, a Seattle company that allows people to order food using the Internet; the food then is delivered to their homes. Under the deal, Cybermeals will have exclusive rights to offer takeout and food delivery services on AOL’s proprietary service and its World Wide Web site.

If Cybermeals’ revenue reaches a certain threshold, which the companies did not specify, AOL also will receive a percentage of those sales.

Cybermeals offers delivery service from more than 11,000 restaurants nationwide. The company said it expects to have 25,000 establishments online when it launches on AOL in April.
