Greater Spokane League gymnas tics returned Thursday after a three-week hiatus, but nothing had changed for University.
Coleen Pierce finished second all-around to help the Titans (14-0) to a meet win over Ferris (12-2), Lewis and Clark (0-13) and host Shadle Park (6-7).
U-Hi has won 31 consecutive GSL meets, including occasional nailbiters against Ferris. The score this time was 156.6-151.4, but Ferris competed without its top all-around gymnast, Kacey Frederickson.
The Saxons senior bumped her head over Christmas break while practicing on the vault. She is expected to return Thursday, when Ferris hosts a meet featuring the league’s top four teams.
Saxons junior Kimberly George picked up for Frederickson, winning her first all-around with a 32.9 score. George won the floor exercise with an 8.55 and the balance beam at 8.3. Pierce finished second on the floor and uneven bars. Tara Hulbert won the bars (8.95), U-Hi teammate Vanessa Cordova the vault (8.25).
U-Hi’s Alisa Brandle was third all-around, with a second-place vault and a third-place beam.
Mary Bass, with a 30.05, had the top all-around score for Shadle.
In the night’s other competition, Central Valley (13-2) moved into second place as its balance overcame North Central’s top guns in a five-way meet at NC.
Heidi McCullough (33.45) and Amber Baines (32.75) won two events apiece for NC (8-5) and placed 1-2 in the all-around. Baines won the beam (8.6) and floor (8.5) while McCullough captured the bars (8.7) and vault (8.75), on which she had her first Tsukahara of the year.
But the Bears had superior depth, scoring 160.1 to win by 15 points.
Lindsay Linerud, Corrine Gannon and Lindsay Zacher finished 3-5 in the all-around for CV, with Linerud second on the vault and floor. CV’s Emily Roberts placed second on the beam and bars.
Mead (5-10), Rogers (4-10) and Mount Spokane (1-14) also competed.
