Gretzky Voted No. 1

New York Rangers center Wayne Gretzky was named the top hockey player of all time by the Hockey News, beating out Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe and Mario Lemieux.

The Toronto-based weekly publication had a panel of 50 experts rank the top 50 players of all-time.

Gretzky, the NHL’s all-time leading scorer with 874 goals and 1,873 assists, holds or shares more than 60 NHL records.

Orr, Howe, Lemieux and Maurice Richard rounded out the top five.

Hunter reaches milestone

Washington’s Dale Hunter reached the 1,000-point milestone as the Capitals beat the visiting Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 Friday night.

Hunter assisted on the three second-period goals giving him 682 assists and 318 goals in an 18-year career.
