Cincinnati Pulls Off Upset

Kenyon Martin had 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Cincinnati Bearcats beat No. 20 Marquette 68-51 Sunday night in Cincinnati.

It was the seventh straight win for Cincinnati (11-2, 3-0 Conference USA) and Martin’s fourth consecutive double-double. The Golden Eagles (10-2, 1-2) have lost two in a row.

D’Juan Baker had 19 points for Cincinnati and Bobby Brannen had 15. Marcus West and Jarrod Lovette each scored 11 for Marquette.

Cincinnati took a 28-18 lead at halftime. Marquette hit just 4 of 23 shots (17 percent), including 1 for 10 from 3-point range against the Bearcats’ man-to-man defense.

The Bearcats outrebounded the Golden Eagles 26-15 in the first half and had 13 offensive rebounds.

Aaron Hutchins, Marquette’s leading scorer (18.2 ppg) was 0 for 3 from the field and had two points in the first half. He finished with nine points.

At Boston, Richard Hamilton scored a career-high 38 points and the Huskies (14-2, 4-1 Big East) beat the Eagles (8-8, 1-5) for the 19th straight time.

Hamilton, who was 4 for 6 from 3-point range, scored 10 straight points for the Huskies as they rallied from 53-52 deficit to take the lead for good, 62-57, with 7:26 left.

Duane Woodward scored 21 points and Antonio Granger added 20 for the Eagles, who have lost four straight.
