Duva Receives Honor
In boxing, Lou Duva has done it all. Fighter. Trainer. Manager. Promoter.
On Tuesday, Duva added another entry to his distinguished boxing resume: Member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Duva headlines a list of 13 boxing greats and ring personalities who will be enshrined June 14. Other honorees include light heavyweight champion Matthew Saad Muhammad, flyweight champion Miguel Canto of Mexico and welterweight champion Antonio Cervantes of Colombia.
Eddie Futch, one of boxing’s greatest teachers, has retired.
Futch not only trained fighters, he trained trainers, and his teachings will continue to influence the sport.
“I wasn’t feeling good,” the 86-year-old Futch said from his home at Las Vegas. “I just couldn’t get things going. Physically, I’m fine, but I’m just not with it any more.”
Joe Bugner proved he still had a spring in his step at age 47 when he regained the Australian heavyweight title from Colin Wilson on a unanimous decision in Gold Coast, Australia.
