Lakeland Will Add Classrooms

The Lakeland Board of Trustees voted Monday night to spend $1.4 million on new classrooms, remodeling and computer purchases.

To accommodate significant growth in Athol and Spirit Lake, Athol Elementary will receive four classrooms, remodeling for a Chapter One room and a new computer lab.

An additional three classrooms and a set of restrooms will be built at Spirit Lake Elementary.

“We no longer have any classrooms in either one of those buildings to reduce class sizes any further or accommodate future growth,” Assistant Superintendent Ron Schmidt said.

The resolution passed by the board also calls for purchase of enough technology hardware to put a computer and printer in every K-2 classroom, plus three computers and one printer for every 3-12 classroom.

Funding for the project will be obtained through the Idaho School Boards Association line of credit program and paid for with a 10-year plant facilities levy passed in 1992.

The levy brings the school district $289,000 each year for such improvement projects.
