Letters To The Editor

Patrol needed?

I have been living in the Ponderosa area for five years and, like Julie Ryen, who has been in the area for only about two years, I too have seen an increase in traffic in the area.

It seems to me to be due to new housing, children reaching the driving age, along with their friends who come to visit. There is also building taking place further up in the hills, and this demands heavy trucks, etc.

I can sympathize with Ms. Ryen, but as her letter (Valley Voice, Jan. 8) stated, “Let’s stick to the facts.”

As to her statement “… (the) road was created and paid for by the developers,” this is a necessary event. When a developer submits a plan to build, the plan must include roads, etc., that are paid for by the developer. Upon completion, the county takes over control and maintenance.

My tax dollars pay to have Bowdish plowed, sanded, repaired and speed signs, etc., erected.

With this in mind, I will agree that there is a problem with speeders on Bowdish as well as this entire area. Putting up concrete dividers or creating a dead end is costly and only diverts the problem to another area without solving the problem.

Perhaps we can ask the developers to pay for a sheriff to personally patrol the Forest Meadows area. If you wanted a private gated commmunity, you should have purchased a home in such a development. Nancy Jo Roth Spokane

A big thank you

I want to thank you for the article by Marny Lombard about the 1998 Homeschoolers Learning Fair to be held at Valleyford Fire District No. 8 on Jan. 30 and 31 (Valley Voice, Dec. 18).

We have gotten calls and responses from people all around. Some have been from homeschoolers as far away as California.

We are really looking forward to this Homeschoolers Learning Fair and the special interest demonstrations being successful due to your help.

If there are still some homeschoolers interested in participating, they can call 891-1370.

Thank you once again. Lyla J. Gray Mica

Vote for EV levy

As a resident of the East Valley School District, I am writing to encourage all East Valley voters to vote “yes” on Feb. 3.

Voters are being asked to renew the maintenance and operations levy for our schools.

This levy supports many programs, such as sports and music, which are important to the development of our students. This levy also supports extra transportation costs, along with teacher re-training not covered by other funding sources.

Let’s continue the strong support of East Valley schools. Sandy Eischen Otis Orchards
