19th-Ranked Plu Falls To Pirates

Greg Jones’ basket with 2.4 seconds left lifted the Whitworth Pirates to a 68-67 Northwest Conference men’s basketball victory Friday over 19th-ranked Pacific Lutheran.

Jones, a West Valley grad, nailed a 17-footer from the right corner to help the Whits gain a share of first place.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Whitworth coach Warren Friedrichs. “This was a big, big win for us.”

Jeff Mix topped the Pirates with 20 points and seven rebounds. Jones finished with 17 points.

Seth Allbright had a game-high 27 points for PLU.
