Chiefs Cruise Again With 18th Road Win
Call them road warriors.
The Spokane Chiefs used a two-goal third period to turn back the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-3 Thursday, improving their season record on the road to 18-7.
The Chiefs, 3-0 on their current trip, had five players score goals in upping their record to 32-13-3.
Ron Grimard gave Spokane a 1-0 lead at the 5:51 mark of the first period with his sixth goal of the year.
After Brandon tied it at 1, the Chiefs’ Trent Whitfield redirected a Ty Jones shot for a goal at 13:19.
Greg Leeb extended the Chiefs’ lead to 3-1 with his 34th goal of the season 3:39 into the second period. The Wheat Kings rallied to tie the game at 3 on second-period goals by Bobby Leavins and Law.
Brandin Cote’s 11th goal gave Spokane the lead for good at the 6:35 mark of the final period. Jones then hit an empty-netter with 40 seconds left.
