Montana Holds Off Eastern Behind Sisco

Skyla Sisco torched Eastern Washington for 28 points and added eight rebounds and six assists Saturday night to lift Montana past Eastern Washington 71-56 in a Big Sky Conference game before 942 spectators at Reese Court in Cheney.

Six of Sisco’s points came from the free-throw line in the final 90 seconds when the Eagles were purposely fouling her. The 5-foot-7 senior attempted 17 free throws, sinking 13.

Eastern (3-12, 1-5 Big Sky) was in this one most of the way and found itself trailing by six points 56-50 when Amy Schmitt converted two free throws with 4:34 remaining. But aside from a 3-pointer by Heather Dukes and another by Tracy Ford, the stretch drive belonged to the Grizzlies (13-4, 6-0).

Saint Mary’s 81, Gonzaga 64

At Moraga, Calif., the Gaels made 18 of 26 from the field in building a 13-point halftime lead and went on to defeat the Bulldogs in the West Coast Conference.

Gonzaga, which was 12 for 33 in the first half, was led by Staci Andrews, who scored 20 points. Lydia Ledgerwood added 12 points and Holly Turner 10.

Gonzaga pulled to within one point at 50-49, but Saint Mary’s (11-5, 2-2) pulled away again.
