The U.S. women’s soccer team opened the Guangzhou international tournament by routing Sweden 3-0 on goals by Tisha Venturini, Tiffeny Milbrett and Debbie Keller.

“I was pleased with our game, and although we had a much stronger second half, we were always in complete control of the match,” U.S. coach Tony DiCicco said of his team’s first outing of 1998.

Norway defeated China 2-1 in the other game. The United States faces China on Wednesday and Norway on Saturday.
