CV Still Unbeaten In Gsl

High school wrestling

Central Valley (7-0) moved closer to a perfect Greater Spokane League season, as unbeaten Shane Cunanan, Brandon Brown, Blair Alderman and Brandon Bouge won Wednesday during a 49-15 decision over visiting Rogers (4-3).

Cunanan (135 pounds) improved to 5-0 in the GSL with a second-round pin after six first-round takedowns. Brown (148) is 5-0 after a major decision; Alderman (168) is 6-0 after a technical fall; and Bouge (215) is 7-0 after a third-round pin.

The GSL is down to two more dual meets. CV’s top challenge is at 7:30 tonight, when it travels to University (5-2) for the so-called “Battle of the Bone.” A full crowd is expected.

Elsewhere it was: U-Hi 51, Shadle Park 22; Ferris 50, Mt. Spokane 28; Gonzaga Prep 53, North Central 18; and Mead 48, Lewis and Clark 22.

At Shadle, U-H’s Josh VandeVanter (158) improved to 5-0 in league, using a third-round near fall to top Matt Largent 10-6. Also for the Titans, Grant Shelly (168) pinned John Wiser at 2:52 after trailing 10-7 and Conor Jordan (141) pinned Steve Webb to improve to 7-0 in league. Jeremy McVay of Shadle (2-5), protecting a 9-7 lead, pinned Gordon Moore in the third round at 190.

At Mt. Spokane, Chad Cluever (190) and Aaron Sedler (215) unleashed first-round pins to start Ferris (4-3) toward wins in the final five matches against the Wildcats (0-7). Jack Claros of the Saxons improved to 6-0 in league with a first-round pin. Mt. Spokane’s Landon Crecelius is 5-1 after a major decision at 129.

At G-Prep, Jeff Zappone of the Bullpups (6-1) edged Morgan Ball 11-9 at 101 to avenge two earlier pins against Ball. Chris Montgomery (115) is 7-0 in the GSL and Louis Peyron (108) is 6-0 after pins for G-Prep. David Sandberg of NC (1-6) is 7-0 in league after a first-round pin.

At Mead, sophomore Josh Tindahl took advantage of a rare chance to score a first-round pin at 215 for the Panthers (5-2). Matt Beal (168) added a first-round pin in his first GSL match. Kevin Konesta of LC (1-6) edged Brett Sicilia 3-2 at 129.
