Massingale Leads Ccs

Shelley Massingale collected 20 points and 11 rebounds Wednesday night as the Community Colleges of Spokane maintained its perfect NWAACC record by defeating Yakima Valley CC 65-55 at Spokane CC.

Massingale, leading scorer among area college women, put in four straight baskets to help the Sasquatch (16-4, 4-0) recover from a sluggish start. Yakima (10-9, 0-4) led by nine points midway through the first half. She scored 14 of her points in the first half .

“Although it was one of our worst 3-point shooting nights (3 for 18),” CCS coach Bruce Johnson said, “our defense was good for the last 30 minutes.”

Spokane’s Eastern Region leaders travel to Walla Walla CC Saturday.

Weber State 64, EWU 61

Shelley Olson, who scored 20 points for the Wildcats (4-13, 4-3), dropped in two free throws with 1 second left to wrap up a Big Sky Conference victory over the Eagles (3-13, 1-6) at Ogden, Utah.

Weber State, trailing 17-13 after the first 8-1/2 minutes, reeled off 15 straight points and never trailed again. However, Eastern Washington cut the gap to one point on Tracy Ford’s layup, the last basket of the game, with 2:23 to play.

Ford led EWU with 15 points.

Men: Yakima 77, CCS 75

The Indians won a hard-fought NWAACC game from the Sasquatch, despite a 24-point showing by Spokane’s Cedric Day.
