Nic Wrestlers Cruise Past Ricks
Shaun Williams’ pin in the 118-pound class got North Idaho off and running to a 34-12 dual wrestling victory Friday over visiting Ricks College.
Williams pinned K.C. Rock at 5:44 in the third period to run his season record to 15-5.
The Cardinals’ 134-pounder, Jeremy Wynia, also notched a pin. Wynia’s pin of Allen Bolen came just 19 seconds into the third period.
NIC’s Trevor Prangley (177) and Thor Stangeland (190) also picked up wins.
“Physically, we’re fine,” said NIC coach Pat Whitcomb. “Our guys wrestled well. Some of them just need to concentrate for the full 7 minutes. We’re wrestling along for 5 minutes, then we kind of go brain dead and let them crawl back in the match.”
Whitcomb was looking forward to today’s Central Washington Tournament in Ellensburg because he thinks his wrestlers will concentrate better when facing multiple matches.
“It’ll come,” he said. “We just have to stay on it and concentrate for 7 minutes.”
Braves get win
Tyler Keller and Norm Lochten each scored a pair of goals to lead the Spokane Braves to a 4-1 win over North Okanagan in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Friday at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.
Spokane broke open a close game with a pair of third-period goals.
The Braves (15-23-1) play at Columbia Valley today.
