Suspected Thief Leaves His Phone Number

From Staff And Wire Reports

A suspected car thief who left his telephone number on the windshield of a stolen Audi was arrested Friday after a sheriff’s deputy used the number to track the man down.

The 1984 Audi apparently broke down on Kenneth Swisher sometime late Thursday or early Friday, authorities said.

Deputy Kirk Keyser was on patrol about 2:30 a.m. Friday when he saw the car parked in an unusual location in the 9400 block of North Division.

Keyser ran the license plate and discovered the car had been stolen in Wichita, Kan., earlier this month. He also found a note stuck under a windshield wiper.

It said, “I’ll be back (Friday) to fix and get my car.” A phone number also was written on the note.

Keyser called the number. Swisher answered and gave a false name and an address that doesn’t exist, deputies said. He later gave a real address, and Keyser drove to the apartment on West Gardner.

After interviewing Swisher, Keyser arrested him on suspicion of second-degree possession of stolen property, a felony.

Keys to the stolen car were found in the apartment, deputies said.
