Zampera Helps Psu Drop Eastern 75-45

Monique Zampera scored 14 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and contributed nine assists Sunday as Portland State University walloped Eastern Washington 75-45 in a Big Sky Conference basketball game at Portland.

The host Vikings scored the game’s first 23 points, with Jennifer Buscher making four 3-pointers and Zampera contributing one 3-point basket and four assists.

EWU (3-14, 1-7 Big Sky) shot a dismal 30.6 percent, making only 19 of 62 shots, including just 4 of 24 from 3-point range. Buscher scored 20 points for PSU (7-11, 4-4).

Missy Davies paced EWU with 10 points.

At Knoxville, Tenn., Chamique Holdsclaw scored 24 points and Semeka Randall and Tamika Catchings each added 22 as the Volunteers (21-0, 7-0 SEC) beat a ranked opponent for the ninth time this season, routing the Commodores (14-3, 5-2).

Beth Ostendorf and Paige Redman each finished with 10 points to lead Vanderbilt, which outrebounded the Tennessee 37-31 but finished with 24 turnovers.

At Bowling Green, Ky., freshman guard Katashia Witcher drove the length of the floor and hit a driving layup at the buzzer to give the Hilltoppers (16-5, 5-1 Sun Belt) a victory over the Techsters (15-3, 5-1).

Louisiana Tech tied the game at 86 on a layup by Amanda Wilson with 10 seconds left. Witcher took the inbounds pass and beat the Techsters’ full-court pressure to score the game-winner.

Witcher finished with a career-high 25 points and teammate Danielle McCulley had 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Wilson led Louisiana Tech with 30 points, tying her career high.

At Durham, N.C., Nicole Erickson scored 21 points as the Blue Devils (14-5, 7-2) upset Clemson (15-4, 7-2) and tied the Tigers for first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Duke led from start to finish against a higher-ranked opponent for the third time this month. The Blue Devils beat Virginia and North Carolina State last week.

Michele VanGorp added 16 points for Duke. Hilary Howard had 14 points and eight assists.

Amy Geren led Clemson with 14 points and Kerri Thomas added 10.
