Schoolgirl Thwarts Kidnapping Attempt
A Newman Lake teen told Spokane County sheriff’s deputies that a man tried to kidnap her Friday, deputies said.
The 13-year-old girl, riding a school bus, had just been dropped off on East Hauser Lake Road. She saw a white 1989 Jeep Cherokee that looked like a relative’s, deputies said.
The male driver called her over to the vehicle and tried to pull her in through the driver’s side window, deputies said.
The girl bit the man on the left hand and got away, deputies said.
The man drove eastbound on East Hauser Lake Road. He was seen later southbound on Starr Road.
The driver was described by the teen as white, 50 to 60 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with gray or white hair and very hairy arms. He also was very tan and was wearing a short-sleeved dark blue T-shirt and jeans.
But a neighbor described him as tall and thin with blond hair.
