Wa-Hi’s Jones Headed For Fsu

Associated Press

Parade Magazine high school All-America quarterback Jared Jones of Walla Walla announced Monday night he will sign a national letter of intent to play football at Florida State.

Seminoles coach Bobby Bowden was here Monday, but did not attend Jones’ news conference at his high school.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Jones picked Florida State over Washington, Tennessee and Michigan, which were heavily recruiting him.

Jones said Bowden told him he planned to redshirt him his freshman year and also told him he could get a shot at starting at quarterback his sophomore year and could a three-year starter at that position.

Jones also was an all-state safety in high school.

Baseball America has ranked Jones as the 19th top high school prospect in the nation and he could go high in the June draft.

At his news conference, Jones said he planned to play baseball at Florida State, too.
