Deputies Say Man Assaulted During Break-In

From Staff And Wire Reports

A South Hill man broke into the house of a female friend Monday night and assaulted her estranged husband, but not before he was hit with a baseball bat, sheriff’s officials said.

The husband hit Robert L. Evans with a bat after Evans forced his way through the front door of the house, according to the Spokane Sheriff’s Department.

The 35-year-old Evans then knocked the husband into a fireplace and began choking and threatening to kill him, the husband told deputies.

Deputies said the woman was able to pull Evans out of the fight. He then fled the home in the 18600 block of East Cowley Ave., deputies reported. Deputies found him at a nearby hospital being treated for head lacerations. After being released from the hospital, Evans was arrested and booked on first-degree burglary.
