Fina Group To China
Swimming’s world governing body, FINA, is sending a delegation to China to investigate the use of banned substances at the world championships in Perth, Australia, and promised tougher drug controls.
FINA said a task force, announced at Perth earlier this month when there were positive results in drug tests, would have a maximum of six months to recommend action to stop drug cheats.
FINA executive director Cornel Marculescu said a FINA special congress on enforcing drug rules would be convened after the task force concluded it investigation.
Track and field’s world governing body will not let the Mary Slaney drug case go away.
The International Amateur Athletic Federation’s drug commission has ruled the case will go to arbitration - five months after USA Track & Field exonerated Slaney of test results from the 1996 Olympic trials that revealed high levels of testosterone.
