Strong Defense Gives Nic Easy Win Over Walla Walla

A stellar defensive effort helped the North Idaho College women to a 75-52 win over Walla Walla Community College in a non-league game at NIC’s Christianson Gym Tuesday.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 26-6 lead and the Warriors didn’t get any closer than eight the rest of the way. NIC forced 21 turnovers and came up with 15 steals.

Alisha Nater led the Cardinals in scoring with 15, including 7 of 11 from the field. Julie Grohs scored 11 and was the only other NIC player in double figures.

Whitworth 67, Whitman 48

Andrea Sherer and Star Olson each scored 14 points as the Pirates beat the Missionaries in a Northwest Conference game at Walla Walla.

A 13-4 run early in the second half gave Whitworth (7-8, 6-3) a 42-26 lead with 17 minutes to play, but Whitman (2-13, 1-8) closed the gap to 44-40 with 12 minutes remaining. The Pirates responded with a 10-0 run to put the game away.

Amanda Bradford scored 11 points to jump two notches on Whitman’s career scoring list with 1,253 points.
