Grocery Employees Look To Teamsters

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Teamsters Union said it has been selected to represent the grocery workers at Huckleberry’s Fresh Markets.

In an employee voting Wednesday, 54 of the 69 eligible workers at the two Huckleberry’s stores on the South Hill and in the Spokane Valley voted. More than half - or 44 of them - voted for representation by the Teamsters Union local 690, according to union officials. Another 10 voted for no union representation.

The United Food and Commercial Workers union - which had represented the Huckleberry’s workers until last fall - pulled its name from the ballot shortly before the election, administrated by the National Labor Relations Board.

If it has cause to challenge the election results, Huckleberry’s parent company, Rosauers, has a week to presents its concerns to the NLRB. Otherwise Rosauers and the Teamsters union will begin to negotiate a contract. , DataTimes
