First vs. last was not a dream matchup as the Bobcats led comfortably throughout in their victory over the Hornets at Sacramento. MSU looks for another breather Saturday at Idaho State. Damon Ollie scored 22 points to lead Montana State’s win. The Bobcats have won five in a row and 10 of 11. Sac State has lost eight straight. … Northern Arizona and Portland State, the two teams giving Montana State the hottest pursuit are at home Saturday. The Lumberjacks play Cal State Northridge and Portland State gets Eastern Washington. Northridge and Eastern, both 3-4 in the conference, may be in the right place at the right time to pull an upset.

East Division leader Utah State, which got 19 points each from Marcus Saxon and Kevin Rice, remains the only undefeated team in conference play and, thanks to preseason favorite New Mexico State’s big win over Nevada, the Aggies have a two-game lead over the Wolf Pack. … New Mexico State shot 61 percent, led by 20 at the half and had five players reach double-figure scoring. Charles Gosa made 9 of 10 shots and led New Mexico State with 23 points. Denmark Reid added 21 points, making 8 of 11 from the field, including 5 of 6 3-pointers… . Senior guard Roberto Bergersen scored 17 points and senior forward Mike Tolman scored 15 to lead Boise State. The Broncos fell behind 6-0, but led 38-28 by the half. A 21-6 Boise State run led to a 19-point lead (61-42) with 9 minutes, 25 seconds remaining.

Portland’s 76-65 home victory over Santa Clara helped create a three-way tie for first place among Gonzaga, Portland and Santa Clara… . Philip Dejworek scored 17 points to lead Portland, which has won five of its last six in the conference. Craig Johnson led Santa Clara with 22 points.
