The Ferris Saxons rode a victory by Jack Claros to a 34-29 upset over Gonzaga Prep in their Greater Spokane League season finale.

Victory over the Bullpups (7-2) ended Ferris’ (6-3) roller-coaster dual-meet season on a high note.

Claros, a returning state competitor, moved up to 108 pounds and decisioned league unbeaten Louis Peyron 10-5 in the decisive match.

Joe Claros, who wrestled much of the year at 108, dropped to 101 and won 11-1.

Their wins were part of a five-match victory skein that brought the Saxons back from a 29-12 deficit.

In another significant match, Gonzaga’s Kyle Gleason had an escape and takedown at 178 to beat Ty Williams 8-7 and remain unbeaten.

The night’s finale went to Nathan Yates of Ferrs, with three second-period points against Brett Roberts.

In another stunner, Shadle Park (3-5-1) defeated Mead (6-3) 46-20.

The Highlanders wrestled with six freshmen in the lineup against a Panthers team primarily using junior varsity athletes.

Elsewhere, Central Valley (9-0) completed its first perfect season in 12 years with a 57-6 victory over Mt. Spokane (0-9). The Bears wrestled several junior varsity athletes and lost only at 215 by injury default.

University (6-3) had little trouble in its match against Rogers (4-5), winning 46-18. In the night’s featured match at 148 pounds, the Pirates’ Kris Clarke beat U-Hi’s previous league unbeaten Josh Vande Vanter, 5-3. U-Hi 115-pounder Gordon Bash beat Ben Houk, wrestling up a weight, 6-4.

North Central (2-6-1) defeated Lewis and Clark (1-8) 50-19. Tony Beggs remained unbeaten for the Indians at 129 pounds. LC then ran off four wins in a row. But NC finished with a flourish, including unbeaten David Sandberg’s pin at 215 pounds.
