Kent State University agreed Tuesday to make a memorial out of parking spaces where four students were shot and killed by National Guard troops on May 4, 1970, while protesting the Vietnam War. Markers will be placed in the four parking spaces, which will be sealed off, a spokesman for the Ohio university said. Elaine Holstein of New York City said she did not know until a couple of months ago that the parking space where her son Jeffrey Miller was killed has not been sealed off. His death was captured in a Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph that showed a woman screaming in anguish over his body. “I’m awfully pleased,” Holstein said. “So much time has gone by and people might not think it’s an issue anymore. But it is.”
